Support auto-divert feature for Polycom phones

Created: 2006-08-31 10:45   Updated: 2007-12-20 07:23
Component/s: polycom

Original Estimate: Unknown Remaining Estimate: Unknown Time Spent: Unknown
Environment: Polycom phones

 Description  « Hide
Some user may want to automatically divert calls from certain callers to other phone numbers. For example, a CEO only gives out his admin's phone number, so all the calls to the CEO will go to his admin. However, the CEO wants calls from his wife to go directly to his phone, bypassing his admin. To achieve this, the admin sets up auto-divert for calls from the CEO's wife and set the divert contact to the CEO. This way, all calls, except those from the CEO's wife, will go to the admin. The only calls that go to the CEO directly will be calls from his wife.

This feature is supported by Polycom phone with its contact directory via <ad> (auto-divert) and <dc> (divert contact) tags.

<use case: set up auto-divert>
- The user logs into his user portal on Config Server.
- The user selects the phone for which he wants to set up auto-divert (A user may have multiple phones.)
- Config Server presents a GUI to allow the user to set up auto-divert.
- The user selects the users or enters the contact information of the users he wants to auto-divert and then enters the divert contact.
- The user activates the auto-divert configuration.
- Config Server updates the contact directory on the server to implement the auto-divert feature.

Supplementary specification:

- This is a per-user feature, i.e. a feature on user portal.

- The user shall be able to enter either phone number or valid SIP address for the divert contact.

- Usablility consideration:
+ Should we consider group operation such as divert a group of calls to a divert contact, such as voice mail?
