Polycom phones can generate subscribes for "missed-call-summary" -- these need to be suppressed

Component/s: polycom
Affects Version/s: 3.8, 3.6
Fix Version/s: None

Original Estimate: Unknown Remaining Estimate: Unknown Time Spent: Unknown
File Attachments: 1. Text File missed-call-summary.txt (723 kb)

Environment:
Polycom 2.1.1.0052

 Description  « Hide
Polycom phones can generate SUBSCRIBES for "Event: missed-call-summary". Since sipX does not support this, the SUBSCRIBEs fail. But the Polycom phone attempts resubscription every minute, generating excess load on sipX. The Config Server should configure the phone to prevent this.

The attached file missed-call-summary.txt are sample messages from the production system.

Michael Haag tells me that this feature is controlled by a configuration item on the Phones -> Lines -> Call Handling page. When the item is un-checked, the phone keeps the missed call count itself; when the item is checked, the phone subscribes to "missed-call-summary" to obtain the missed call count. However, sipX does not implement "missed-call-summary", so if the item is checked, the phone is guaranteed to not be able to display missed call information. So it seems like we should hide this field in the configuration.

It is actually useful to be able to suppress the stations from maintaining local missed call count. Particularly when multiple stations are registered to the same extension. In this case, a locally maintained missed call count is pretty much useless and annoying. Turning it off does generate extra "noise" from the phone, but short of implementing a "missed-call-summary" server, the phones can be squelched by simply accepting the subscription request.

In the past, customers have complained that "missed calls" shown on the screen was misleading because the calls were not actually missed, but have been answered by voicemail. We tried to find a way to change that wording on Polycom phones, but failed.

So, in a "missed-call-summary" server, what exactly constitutes a "missed call"?

So what we really want is a setting that means "Do not display missed call count".
